Everyone has their own opinions and ways of raising their own children. But it doesn’t hurt to get some expert advice and hear what research tells us. Neuropsychiatrist, Daniel J. Siegel, M.D., and parent expert, Tina Payne Bryson, PH.D., help parents understand their children’s behavior by explaining how a child’s brain is wired and how it matures. The Whole Brain Child explains that in young children, the right brain and its emotions tend to rule over the logic of the left brain, explaining the meltdowns and aggravations your child is having. By understanding how your child’s brain is constructed, you can foster growth in an age-appropriate and positive manner. Daniel and Tina, give parents deep insight into caring for children, describing their needs, and how to discipline them in ways that foster optimal development in their second book No-Drama Discipline. This book will create connections in your child’s brains to build emotional and social skills that will serve them now and throughout their entire life. These two books are well worth your time. Get to know you child in a deeper way with The Whole Brain Child and No-Drama Discipline.

Bringing a newborn into the world is a very exciting time, but it could also be very nerve wrecking. After the high of the excitement reality sets in and questions begin to flood your mind like, “Am I going to be a good parent?” or “Now what?…”, but the answers seem to come at the right time and things tend to work themselves out. But remember… You’re not the only one experiencing something new because your newborn is experiencing a whole new world for the first time. And, as we all know, the world is a huge playground. These cute floral onsies by ohsweetsprouts found on Etsy is a cute way to introduce your child to the world. This shop has many more products that you might find attractive so feel free to browse their store and take peek!

Torch isn’t out just yet but you can see what they are up to on their kickstarter campaign! If you like what you see feel free to support the cause and pick up a unit! Have a peace of mind while your children browse the world wide web.
Let’s face it… Kids grow up too fast. You could’ve sworn that you’re child was just running around in diapers last year and now he or she is graduating high school. As parents, sometimes we don’t have all the time in the world to capture and log every moment by lugging around our cameras or writing down details on a pen and pad. Better yet… Although scrap-booking is always a cute idea, who actually sits down and spends the time cutting and pasting into a photo book? Good thing there’s an App for all those things that we just mentioned and it’s a good one. It’s called Tinybeans. As Forbes Magazine said, “Tiny beans is a platform for parents to celebrate and share the small and beautiful details of raising their family”. With Tinybeans you can records photo’s, video’s, and notes. Keep track of developmental milestones and achievements, while sharing your kids journals and photo’s in a safe and PRIVATE social network. Give this App a try. It won’t break the bank since it’s free!

Etsy is known to have a lot of cute little shops that make hand-made items, and this company, Fox and the Traveling Gypsy, is one of our new favorites. Nickelodeon used to be unrivaled when it came to children’s television content. There was Doug, Rugrats, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Hey! Arnold, and the list can go on and on. But the one show that is perfect for the Halloween season (even before Monsters Inc.) is Aaahh!!! Real Monsters. With all the different ways to watch TV Shows these days we provided an Amazon link where you could stream or download the episodes made by Nickelodeon. We’re sure you can find them other ways as well like Netflix or iTunes (cough…cough…maybe Youtube) but we will leave what service you like most up to you. If you’re a 90’s kid you know exactly what this show is…unless you weren’t living on this planet at the time or you weren’t into only the best kids network ever at that time. Either way it will be good to bring back the sweet monsters Krumm, Oblina, and Ickis.

This week we would like to showcase films and shows that make us throw covers over our heads. Nothing too scary because we focus primarily on children, but we’d like to start off by mentioning this classic. Remember not feeding your little pet past midnight or else they would transform into a menacing creature? We do… And it’s all thanks to Gremlins! The film was made in 1984 and, although it may be out of date, it still holds up when it comes to fantasy/comedy/horror films that children may be able to handle. We’d like to think of it like a Denice the Menace for monsters. If you’ve never seen this film before check it out! If you have and you feel like your kid could handle the cuteness of Gizmo (top right) and the destruction of Stripe (bottom right) then this may be the perfect film for the family. Just remember to avoid bright lights and water… Or else… Muahahaha…
